Cyprus Healthcare Business Awards – Honorary Distinction for Aretaeio Hospital
Aretaeio Hospital won the Bronze Award in the category “Digital Applications for the information and integrated care of patients” at the “Cyprus Healthcare Business Awards 2021”, organised by Boussias Cyprus.
This award is the result of the hard and continuous work of the people of Aretaeio. Aretaeio Hospital is a modern, innovative hospital in the heart of Nicosia. It was founded in 2006 by 42 shareholders-doctors. From the first day of its operation, the non-negotiable goal for all medical and nursing staff is to provide the best and most complete medical care to patients and to continuously upgrade the health services offered.
The quality and purpose of the Hospital is reflected in the hard work and efficiency of the staff. During the last years, Aretaeio has invested in the field of innovation, through our participation in innovative programs and innovative medical practices and our goal is to make our hospital a modern Center of Excellence and Reference, both in Cyprus and in the wider region of the Eastern Mediterranean, so that we can continue to provide the highest health care to all patients in need and to offer practically back to society.
The pace of innovation has reached its peak due to the disruption brought to society by the Covid-19 pandemic. As we live it, many habits of social life have been renewed and consolidated. In fact, we are entering the “smart era” because the computing power behind our devices is currently huge, interconnected, fast, secure, and decentralised. The Internet, Cloud Computing, Blockchain and artificial intelligence are the elements that give society a level of operation, a field of unity, where people and devices can work together to implement progress.
Aretaeio Hospital is a key player in this revolution in Digital Health Innovation. Aretaeio Hospital, a long-time pioneer in equipment and technology, now integrates Digital Health Innovation into the core of the Organization. The “Patient Experience” acquires a completely new meaning with the use of blockchain technology E-HCert – Vechain and the Artificial Intelligence MayaMD-AI that are now both, the core for the development of a new and secure Centralised Electronic Medical Record.
The philosophy of the E-HCert application is very simple: hospitals store confidential medical records of patients in their databases. The E-HCert application is here to help organize and properly flow the information of the hospital and laboratory system to send this data to the real beneficiary who is the patient and his doctor. E-HCert makes full use of the capabilities of the VeChain Blockchain, so that there is full confidentiality, protection, and validity of the patient’s medical data.
E-HCert is an application that enables the user to digitally access his medical records at any time so that he can better understand his state of health. The way it works is simple and easy to use, since, once the clinical results are ready, the patient receives a notification that its results are available in the application and can be accessed at any time. At the same time, the attending physician receives a notification through the application to examine the results from the specially designed “Doctor Portal Lens” screen, while the patient can also share his laboratory tests with any doctor he wishes, for further testing, by sending the electronic link.
The comparative advantage of this application lies in the fact that the data is sent in real time, with graphs for a better understanding of the patient’s condition, which ensures direct communication between doctor and patient, as well as a more accurate and timely diagnosis.
In addition, the application ensures the security of the information, as it does not store any information but receives it from the provider (Hospital system) with the patient and the doctor having full control over the data, as the legal beneficiaries.
The E-HCert application also offers certificates from general routine analyses to vaccination, as well as diagnostics from Medical Centers, such as the Radiology Department and the First Aid Department.
Maya MD is an artificial intelligence application that provides patients with two basic services related to their “patient journey”:
- Symptom checking and arrangements of appointments with the appropriate doctor
- Pre-surgical preparation and post-surgical monitoring
More specifically, the user can use Maya to receive a diagnosis and be referred to the competent doctor for arranging an appointment, after registering his symptoms inside the application. In addition, another innovative feature of this application is the possibility it provides for pre-surgical preparation, through live video and daily checklist, while postoperative instructions are provided both for the discharge from the Hospital, as well as for home care and monitoring of the patient’s health.
Based on the above, the strategic advantage of this application is to ensure a detailed and uninterrupted channel of communication between the patient and the attending physician, through the instructions-information from Maya, at a time when the workload of doctors has increased significantly, after the hospital’s integration into GHS. The use of the platform therefore provides the user with the opportunity to contact the Hospital, to be informed about the state of his health as well as to receive instructions for his treatment as soon as possible and in real time, thus upgrading both the effectiveness of the Hospital and the quality of the health services we offer.
